Rider Story – Overcoming huge accident to triumph on the bike

Emily is 32 years old, from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Her cycling journey to The 2016 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships Perth began 5 years ago. However her training quickly came to a halt when she was hit by a car while cycling, back in 2013.

She was airlifted to the trauma hospital to be treated for severe injuries, including a brain injury, and broken facial bones requiring reconstructive surgery and numerous dental surgeries.

Throughout the uncertainties of her recovery, one thing always remained constant - she just wanted to be back riding her bike.

Emily’s determination and perseverance has led her to compete in 21 races since February, 2016, with 16 podium finishes including 13 first place finishes, a 1st place in the Canadian Masters Time Trial Championships and a 2nd place in the Canadian Masters Road Race Championships.

Beaming with happiness and gratitude she will be travelling to Perth, Australia to compete in the 2016 UCI Gran Fondo Time Trial World Championships competing in the time trial race on Rottnest Island.

Congratulations Emily an inspiration to all!
